Is the Palm Pre Better Than the iPhone?

By now you have heard all the hype about the Palm Pre. It’s out and people are hot after it. What is all the fuss about anyway? And is it really better than the iPhone? Let’s take a closer look. Consider this a product review of sorts.

Here is a list of the pros and cons of the Palm Pre as compiled from over 25 people who have it and use it regularly.

Pros:

The WebOS is fast and easy to use.

The gestures work very well.

The GMail push feature works effectively.

You have the ability to multitask.

The camera pictures are amazing quality.

You have the option of using the keyboard along with the touchscreen.

WebOS is excellent.

The size seems to be just about right.

The screen is high quality.

The speaker is clear and loud.

Web browsing is fast.

Threaded SMS.

Feels good in your hand.

Cons:

The keyboard is small.

Lack of apps (but it is still early). Only a few apps are available to download at the present time.

Limited cut and paste options.

No expandable memory options.

Battery life is not long. Some have reported a one hour conversation uses up 30% of the battery’s power.

No ability to search email.

Tethering does not work.

Bottom Line:

Overall, this product review is positive. There are definitely some missing features, and there are some performance issues too, especially for on the go people. However, the Palm Pre offers some well integrated features. The multitasking features seem to be the highlight for many users. The hardware could stand some improvements, and I am sure that will come soon. It is fair to say that the Palm Pre has set the standard for handling tasks. It is definitely going to compete with the iPhone. It is hard to say at this point, though, that it is better overall than the iPhone. Time will tell.
