Even if you are not a tennis or golf fan, you have to appreciate the greatness of the two greatest players to ever play these sports. Roger Federer (tennis) and Tiger Woods (golf) are simply amazing athletes. At the age of 27 and still in his prime, Federer is already considered the best ever in his sport. If you look at his accomplishments, it is difficult to disagree. He has already won more major championships (15) than anyone ever. But it is his style of play that makes him an artist on the court. It is a pleasure to see someone play his game with such grace. He also is a great ambassador for his sport. Tiger is the more famous of the two. He, too, is in his prime. He hasn’t eclipsed the record for most major wins, but there are few that will dispute the fact that he will very soon. What makes these two so good are many things. One thing that stands out for me is that when the pressure is on, they play their best. Pressure moments are when champions emerge. Roger and Tiger define the word champion. It is also interesting that the two athletes are also close friends, often texting each other with well wishes and congratulatory offerings. Something tells me that there will be a lot more congratulations exchanged for these two before it is all over.

As the world mourns the loss of one of music’s greatest stars, Michael Jackson, I ponder his legacy. Michael certainly had his problems, but once a little time has passed, I think he’ll be best remembered for all of his great songs. He made his mark back in the early 1980’s with the biggest selling album of all time, “Thriller.” Many wonderful songs later, he began to be viewed as “unusual,” to say the least, for all of his personal problems. But just like Elvis and Frank Sinatra before him, we will remember Michael, too, for his musical contributions. We don’t choose to remember Elvis as the overweight, drug-addicted person, but rather the King of Rock and Roll. The slender, attractive, heart throb Elvis is who we most think of. I, for one, will miss Michael. He had it tough at times, and maybe some of that he brought on himself. But like his great song, “Man in the Mirror” says, “If you want to make a change(in the world), take a look in the miror.” We could all benefit if we followed that advice. Good bye Michael. We will miss you.

I wonder how many of these so called diet pills actually work?  You can’t help but see them.  They’re  everywhere. You see them all over the Internet, infomercials, commercials and magazines. They all pretty much claim the same thing, pop a few of these pills and watch the pounds melt away. I have talked to several health experts who have told me that 95% of those pills do not work. The problem is we don’t know what the 5% of them do work.  What I get tired of is seeing these skinny people on TV that claim all they did this take a few pills each day and miraculously they lost 30 pounds.  Anybody ever wonder how there could be a before and after picture? I mean I understand the after picture.  But what I don’t understand is that before picture.  Here is this rather obese person grinning from ear to ear.  What do they have to smile about anyway? Well maybe it’s that they know they’re gonna lose that 30 are 40 pounds. I guess if I knew I was going to drop 30 pounds I’d probably be smiling too.

If you want your basement to be more functional, you can add insulation and better lighting to improve this part of your home. When planning to remodel your basement, make sure that you take into consideration adding more light and an insulation system so that you can make this area more comfortable for your family and guests. Here are some tips on how you can improve lighting and insulation for your basement.

Giving light to your basement

Choosing colors for your basement

If you want your basement to appear more bright, cool and relaxed, consider using a light colored paint. This is one way of emphasizing light sources, even if it is just a small amount of light, such as a lamp or light from a small window. Bright colors can instantly give your basement light and brighten it up.

Add more lights

You can use any number of lights for your basement. This would help to give the feel of different natural light sources inside the room. To highlight some elements found inside your basement, you can use a spotlight. Spotlights can add drama to your basement. Using spotlights can also eliminate the shadows forming in the corner of your basement so you get the illusion of light and space.

Insulation for your basement

Insulation for basement walls

There are actually two layers of walls in your basement. One layer is your foundation wall and another wall that should be one to two inches away from the first wall. In between that, a vapor barrier should be present. This is attached with a drainage system to help your basement be free of leaks as well as to prevent moisture from seeping into your basement.

Insulation for your basement ceiling

You can also opt for your basement ceiling to have an insulation system of its own. This would help to insulate the room and can also help contain noise within the basement. This is a good idea when you are using your basement as an entertainment area.

Check for leaks and moisture

If you have your insulation boards ready to be installed in your walls and ceiling, make sure that you check for leaks and any presence of moisture. Fix these problems before you install your insulation system to prevent bigger problems at a later time.

Seal band joists

Keep an eye on band joists and seal them. This would prevent the air and moisture from seeping in the wall joints. In addition to protecting the insulation system, this also keeps the plumbing and electrical system free from damage.

Follow these simple steps on lighting and insulation, and you will be on your way to having a better basement.
